Amhara has registered over 4.7 million students for the 2019 E.C. school year

The Amhara Region Education Bureau planned to register 7.6 million students for the 2019 E.C. school year. By Pagume 5, 2018 E.C. (10 September 2026), more than 4.7 million had registered, which the bureau puts at 62 percent of the plan. The bureau says it is working to register the remaining 38 percent quickly, and that registration will not run on into Tikimt, Hidar and Tahsas this year as it did in earlier years. Getachew Biyazin, the bureau's head of public relations, gave the figures to The Reporter, and they reached us through Tikvah Education on 19 September 2026.

A shorter registration season

The bureau says it has been trying to finish registration in a short time so that school days are not lost. In earlier years, registration in the region carried on into Tikimt, Hidar and Tahsas (roughly October to early January). Getachew Biyazin said this year's figures show that will not happen again. He added that the bureau is holding discussions with communities and influential people to solve the problems that come up around registration.
